At your best, ESD

Brian Schneider

Every single day we have an opportunity to do more, encourage others, and give back. In an effort to put yourself in a position to succeed, it’s essential that you be at your best as often as possible.

Being at your best means that you’re taking care of your body, mind, and spirit, and it requires you to make healthy decisions and good choices the majority of the time (I know firsthand how hard this can be).

Being at your best means you’re prioritizing self-care – sleep, relaxation, resilience, and rest to support both growth and enjoyment in life.

Being at your best also requires you to make decisions about the people you hang around. It means that you’re concerned about the other influences in your life - everything from what you read to what you watch to certain friends and family members with whom you spend time.

While I was working as a project manager at a local healthcare organization, employees were asked to go through a culture building training program led by the company Senn Delaney. One of the concepts we learned is called the mood elevator, essentially representing the current level of your mood or emotions and which determines how you give and receive information and how you respond to and treat others. Being at your best means your mood elevator is at a higher floor which translates to a less stressful, judgmental, and critical mood. By remaining higher on the mood elevator, you’re able to handle the undulations of life from the traffic to the politics to the news.

Seeking to be at your best requires you to prioritize and set boundaries in your life; to think and consider other people and how your life and actions impact them both directly and indirectly.

Being at your best requires you to feel safe, both at work and at home. Feeling secure and comfortable helps to support being at your best no matter where you are and allows you to be more genuine and authentic.

Being at your best supports an every single day mindset because the most essential part of developing this mindset begins with YOU.
